Approved Professional Development/
Continuing Education Courses

Certification Standards require in Section .03 G. (4) "The instructor or training supervisor shall successfully complete 12 hours of professional development in training or applicable continuing education within the three-year period."  This requirement applies to both instructors and training supervisors.  Further, the requirement is for professional development or continuing education in the field of  instructional methodology. 

In an effort to clarify what courses are considered acceptable in addressing the 12-hour requirement for recertification, the Board is  developing a list of approved courses.  Courses will be added and deleted on a regular basis.  If you have a question concerning the acceptability of a particular program, you may submit a course outline to the Board for review.  The Board will make a determination on a case-by-case basis with the appropriate documentation.

Effective April 7, 2004, the Board will accept a MAXIMUM OF 6 HOURS OF ITC II TOWARD THE 12 HOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENT FOR RECERTIFICATION. The Instructor Training Course Level II was never intended to replace Professional Development/Continuing Education for instructors but was offered as an alternative for instructors who may have had difficulty in the past achieving the full 12 hours as required by the Standard.  Since a significant number of PDI opportunities are now available, the Board has elected to restrict the number of hours it will accept toward meeting the PDI requirement for recertification.
