Objective: The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (eACLS) course is a customized course for prehospital and hospital professionals. The program provides a case-based approach to Advanced Cardiac Life Support training. It is a highly interactive on-line program including more than 200 live-action video clips and 500 photos, illustrations and animations to reinforce the student's ability to assess and manage life-threatening cardiac and respiratory emergencies.
The eACLS course is comprised of ten interactive case studies focusing on serious respiratory and cardiac emergencies. A resources section is also available for students to review ECGs, pharmacology and electrical therapy at any time.
The eACLS course has been developed by Jones and Bartlett Publishers in partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Safety Council (NSC). The content covered in the eACLS course is consistent with the 2005 International Consensus Guidelines for CPR and ECC and that covered in other nationally recognized ACLS courses.
These courses are offered free of charge to those providers affiliated with a Maryland fire, rescue or emergency services department. For all others, the course cost if $150.00. Students will be provided with a copy of the eACLS Study Guide for use during the course. The book may be purchased or it must be returned in good condition to the Institute during the ACLS Evaluation Course. No writing, underlining or highlighting is permitted in the eACLS Study Guide if it is to be returned. .
Successful completion of the course requires successful completion of all ten online case studies and an online written examination. In order to receive ACLS certification, students must also successfully complete the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Skills Evaluation Course. Students successfully completing both the eACLS course and the ACLS Skills Evaluation will receive an eACLS Course Completion Card valid for a period of two years. Students who receive an online code for eACLS and do not complete the Skills Evaluation will be billed for the online code.
The continuing education hours are approved by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), www.miemss.org and are recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), www.nremt.org.
