Preparation for Initial Company Operations (NFA)

Course Objective: To develop a better understanding of the role and responsibilities of a company officer in preparing the company for incident operations and to clarify the transition from firefighter to company officer and the new roles relating to leadership and safety. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to manage one or more companies operating at a structural fire emergency..

Course Description: This course is designed for company officers, acting company officers, or senior firefight¬ers responsible for the management of a single fire company at an emergency incident and those officers who are responsible for company readiness, personnel safety, and leadership as it relates to company operation. Major topics covered in the course are roles and responsibilities of company offi¬cers, readiness, communication, building construction and fire behavior, preincident preparation, and the recognition-primed decision (RPD) model of decision making. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, individual and group classroom exercises. ..

Successful Completion: Students must attend all class sessions and complete required classroom activities.
