Fire Service Instructor I - NFPA 1041
This resident offering is designed to focus on multiple short duration presentations by each student supported by classroom instruction.  The course is presented in 5 days of instruction and provides instructor candidates the opportunity to deliver instruction effectively from a prepared lesson plan including use of instructional aids and evaluation instruments with an educationally sound, objective-based certification course that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 2, 1996 edition.  The  primary text is the MFRI Instructor I Student Manual.  The IFSTA Fire Service Instructor, 6th edition, 1999, is referenced as the supplemental text.  Daily after class study and written assignments are necessary to complete the course.  Students must pass a final examination. Attendance,  assignments, and successful completion of the exams enables the participant to request Fire Instructor I certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost.

Fire Service Instructor II/III - NFPA 1041
This resident offering is presented in 5 days of instruction and provides instructor candidates the opportunity to develop individual lesson plans for a specific topic including learning objectives, instructional aids, and an educationally sound, objective-based certification course that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapters 3 and 4, 1996 edition.  The  primary text is the MFRI Instructor II Student Manual.  The IFSTA Fire Service Instructor, 6th edition, 1999, is referenced as the supplemental text.  Daily after class study and written assignments are necessary to complete the course.  Students must complete and pass the final examination and a research project, along with attendance and class  assignments to successfully complete the course, which enables the participant to request Fire Instructor II certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost.

Participants must be nationally certified Fire Instructor I to enroll.

Fire Officer I Certification - NFPA 1021
This resident offering orients the first-line company officer to administration functions and emergency operations.  The course is presented in 10 days of instruction to provide current, aspiring, and officer candidates an educationally sound, objective-based course of instruction that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 2, 1997 edition.  Unique to this program is a preceptorship requirement, group problem solving exercises, scenario problems with tactical simulation, and a focus on the implementation and applicability of the Incident Command System as applied to fire ground operations and incident scene management.  The primary text is the MFRI Fire Officer I Student Manual.  The IFSTA Fire Department Company Officer Text, 3rd edition, 1998, is referenced as the supplemental text.  Daily after class study and written assignments are necessary to complete the course.  Sessions for both weeks run Monday-Friday and students must pass a mid-term and final examination, which upon attendance, assignments and successful completion of the exams, enables the participant to request Fire Officer I certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost.

Participants must be national certified Firefighter II to enroll.

Fire Officer II Certification - NFPA 1021
This resident offering is designed as a sequel to the Fire Officer I program.  The course is presented in 6 days of instruction to provide mid-level officers/supervisors and officer candidates with an educationally sound, objective-based certification course that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 3, 1997 edition.  The program expounds upon the administrative and operational readiness challenges of mid-management encounters on a daily basis.  The program teaches the company officer how to develop and apply strategic planning concepts and resource deployment to incidents that begin to immediately escalate upon arrival into multi-unit response operations.  The  primary text is the MFRI Fire Officer II Student Manual.  The IFSTA Fire Department Company Officer Text, 3rd edition, 1998, is referenced as the supplemental text.  Daily after class study and written assignments are necessary to complete the course.  Sessions run Monday - Saturday and students must pass a final examination.   If attendance and  assignments and successful completion of the exams, enables the participant to request Fire Officer I certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost.

Participants must be national certified Fire Officer I and Instructor I to enroll.

Fire Officer III Certification - NFPA 1021
This resident offering is designed to provide current and potential chief officers at the company, department, or organizational fire service level with a solid perspective on fire service management and related issues and is designed to prepare the participant to function in the capacity of an organizational chief officer, or as a member of a chief officer/fire administrator’s executive staff. The program is presented in 10 days of instruction with an educationally sound, objective-based certification program that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) and challenges consistent with NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 4, 1997 edition.  The primary text is the MFRI Fire Officer III Student Manual.  Classroom material shall include case studies and management references from national publications.  Daily after class study and written assignments are necessary to complete the program.  Sessions for both weeks run Monday-Friday and students must pass a mid-term and final examination.  Attendance, assignments, and successful completion of the examinations enables the participant to request Fire Officer III certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Participants must be nationally certified Fire Officer II and Instructor II to enroll.  Class size is limited to a maximum of 25 students.  Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost

Fire Officer IV Certification - NFPA 1021
The resident offering designed to provide current and potential chief officers at the department, or organizational fire service level with a solid perspective on fire service management and related issues and is designed to prepare the participant to function in the capacity of an organizational chief officer, or as the senior chief officer/fire administrator. The Fire Officer IV functions at the administrative level of a multi-division fire and emergency services department. The program is presented in 10 days of instruction with an educationally sound, objective-based certification program that addresses the job performance requirements (JPRs) and challenges consistent with NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5, 1997 edition Major topics include ethics, in-basket exercises, grievance appraisals, member’s education and in-service training goals, member-assistance programs, incentive programs, community relations, long-range planning, training program evaluation, disaster planning, domestic preparedness, and risk management. Sessions for both weeks run Monday-Friday. Attendance requirements and successful completion of written projects enable the participant to request Fire Officer IV certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. Student text materials and certification fees are included in the program cost.

Participants must be nationally certified Fire Officer III to enroll.

Hazardous Materials - Incident Commander - 
NFPA 472

The two-day (2) Hazardous Materials Incident Commander training program is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills to be able to assume responsibility and make decisions relating to the management of a hazardous materials incident. Major topics include hazardous materials management system; health and safety; incident management system; action plans, site management and control; problem identification; hazard and risk evaluation; personal protective equipment, information management and resource coordination; response objectives; decontamination management; and incident termination. Attendance requirements and successful completion of written projects enable the participant to request Fire Officer IV certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.

Participants must be nationally certified Hazardous Materials-Operations to enroll.

Fire Apparatus Driver Operator/Pump - NFPA 1002
The four-day (4) training program is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills needed to operate fire department pumping apparatus. Major topics include basic terminology, water supply, water pressure and gauges, hydraulics, positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, pump power supply systems, relief valves, pressure governors, primers water sources, and maintenance. Attendance requirements and successful completion of written and practical exams enable the participant to request Driver Operator/Pump certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. 

Participants must be nationally certified Firefighter I to enroll.

Fire Apparatus Driver Operator/Aerial - NFPA 1002
The three-day (3) training program is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to operate a fire department aerial ladder truck and associated equipment. Major topics include truck company operations, tool requirements, terminology, techniques of spotting, stabilizing, working angles, loading, extreme operating conditions, raising and lowering, controls and valves, hydraulics systems, water tower operations, standpipe operations, ladders, safety rules, maintenance and testing. Attendance requirements and successful completion of practical and written exams enable the participant to request Driver Operator/Aerial certification from the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board (MFSPQB) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.

Participants must be nationally certified Firefighter I to enroll.
