Fire Arson Detection for First Responders (NFA)

Course Objective: To provide a clear definition of the role of the initial responder organizations; to pro¬vide essential knowledge to enable them to recognize the potential of an intentionally-set fire; to pre¬serve evidence; and to properly report the information to appropriate officials. Upon successful comple¬tion of this course, the student will be able to recognize the indicators of an intentionally-set fire; how to preserve evidence; and report information to an appropriate official. br>
Course Description: Major topics covered in this course are fire behavior, critical observations of the first responder, fire cause, scene security and evidence preservation, legal considerations, and reporting of findings. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises and case studies. br>
Successful Completion: Students must attend all class sessions and complete required classroom activities.
