National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Instructor Preparation Course (2nd ed.)

Course Objective: To ensure that NAEMT instructor candidates have the didactic, practical, and pedagogical knowledge in order to successfully perform their duties as a NAEMT instructor.

Course Description: This is an online course with eight interactive, narrated modules include an overview of NAEMT's continuing education programs and administrative policies, adult education and learning methodologies, the best practices for NAEMT continuing education courses, and classroom management. Two new modules, focusing on best practices in online education and introduction to simulation concepts, are also included in the second edition. This comprehensive instructor development course ensures that instructor candidates understand the unique educational principles of NAEMT's continuing education courses.

Successful Completion: Students must attend all class sessions and successfully pass the final exam, which students have two attempts to pass. Completion of the NAEMT Instructor Preparation Course does not qualify the participant as an NAEMT instructor. It is one step in the process of becoming an instructor. Completion of the NAEMT Instructor Preparation Course, Second Edition along with successful completion of the provider course and a monitored teach- back for the NAEMT program that you wish to teach, is required to be recognized as an NAEMT instructor.

Continuing Education: Candidates who successfully complete the NAEMT Instructor Preparation Course, Second Edition are eligible for 6 hours of continuing education through CAPCE.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite(s): Students must be a current, licensed Maryland advanced life support clinician who has completed MFRI Instructor I and Instructor II; is a current MFRI ALS MICRB instructor and have taken the most recent version (and within the last two years) of the NAEMT course they wish to teach. To register, students must first contact the ALS Coordinator for approval at als@mfri.org
