Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course - ACLS (AHA 2020)

Course Objective: To provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to manage patients in a pre-arrest, arrest or post-arrest state.

Course Description: This course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies, including personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units. This is an instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large group sessions and in small group testing and learning stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Successful Completion: Students must attend all classroom sessions, successfully complete all practical evaluation stations and obtain a minimum score of 84% on the final written examination. To maintain these credentials, renewal training is required every four years.

Continuing Education: The continuing education hours are approved by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), and are recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

Prerequisites

Students must be a current, licensed Maryland advanced life support clinician.
