Basic Elevator Operations and Rescue

Course Length: 6 contact Hours (1-day delivery) Prerequisite(s): None Course Objective: To provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform safe elevator operations/Rescue. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be aware of the common types of elevators, how to identify the elevator components, how to response appropriately to a stalled elevator, how to identify the safe evacuation of a stalled elevator, and when and where to do Lock Out/ Tag Out. Course Description: Major topics covered in this course include firefighter safety, elevator history, types of elevators, elevator components, suggested Operational Guidelines, how to properly respond to a stalled elevator, how to safely evacuate an elevator under an emergency situation, how to safely and properly do Lock Out/ Tag Out. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, and team- focused practical exercises.
