Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician

Course Description: Major topics covered in the course are chemical and physical properties; recognition and identification of hazardous materials; laws, regulations, standards and information resources; personal protective equipment; detection devices; hazard and risk assessment; decontamination; drum handling; damage assessment; tactical considerations; leak control; handling cylinder emergencies; drum sampling; terminating the incident; and required documentation. This course includes team-focused practical exercises.

This class will require additional student work outside of normal class hours to include, but not limited to; take-home assignments, PTIs, study guides, and assigned readings from the textbook. This may also include coursework that must be completed prior to the first class session.

Prerequisites

MFRI Hazardous Materials Operations (HM-102 or HM-106) or MFRI Hazardous Materials Operations (Extended Version) (HM-112) or MFSPQB, NBFSPQ, or IFSAC/DOD Hazardous Materials Operations certification.
