Scenarios: Dwelling

Dwelling fire simulations teach the lessons learned from NIOSH investigations, prior experiences of fire ground commanders, and enhanced brief initial report (BIR) size up. The skills address issues that have resulted in both civilian and firefighter fatalities over the years.

The skills you will learn are based on research data from various incidents including failure to complete a 360-degree size up, recognize the presence of basement fires, understand how flow paths affect the safety of civilians and firefighters and protect crews above a fire. Command presence and effective leadership during the initial stage will contribute drastically to the successful outcome of the emergency incident. Anyone from firefighters to command officers needs to learn cutting-edge technology, critical thinking, and appropriate decision-making to prepare for future incidents. The simulation instructors will address their own personal experiences faced during a firefighter's mayday.
