Span of control using division and groups, are detailed. Special Operations simulations teach the lessons learned from NTSB investigations, NIOSH investigation and prior Special Operations Branch Directorís command experiences. Understanding the enhanced Brief Initial Report (BIR) size up is critical to incident development. This enhanced understanding, addresses issues that have resulted in initiating progressive special operations procedures. These skills are based on research data that includes failure to complete and obtain successful size up information, recognizing how and what resources are needed, and understanding the dynamics of a major Special Operations incident. Crew resource management on Special Operations incident and critical decision-making elements are discussed. Understanding the Special Operations Directorís role and issues, dynamics of the special operationís incident conditions, size of the incident, resources to handle the incident, and other related special operations concerns are covered. Personnel during the simulation will handle civilian rescues, and they will address issues faced during a firefighter Mayday related to the Special Operations Branch!
